Can anyone explain why people are still talking about “hipsters” like they are a new thing or like the term even means anything anymore?

Whenever I see a post on tumblr or reddit about “hipsters” or what makes or does not make a “hipster” and the fucking different varieties of “hipsters”, I feel like I’m watching college freshmen who just saw Fight Club for the first time yesterday.

i still see a lot of people talking about (air quotes) “emos”, too, which is equal parts totally amusing and totally cringe-inducing.

OH MAN

WHEN PEOPLE REFER TO OTHER PEOPLE AS EMOS

like, HE’S KIND OF AN EMO

OH GOD

I HATE IT

i had to stop correcting people

and telling them there were three waves of emo and that they are misusing  that term

they didn’t care

one time (or several times, possibly, but i know it’s happened at least once) i got drunk at a bro bar with my friends who thought jeff dunham was really funny and very much and very unironically enjoyed the apple bottom jeans song, where i explained to a very drunk bro all about emo and the 90s and rites of spring and sunny day real estate and how whatever they thought was emo was probably pop punk but he just looked at me funny and incorrectly assumed that i was trying to be all more-obscure-than-thou. i never found people (who i liked) in pensacola who gave a shit about the music i gave a shit about in the manner i gave a shit about it. everyone was all snotty and shit.

EXCUSE ME?
